1971 Volkswagon Beetle

Classic Facts

3,000 miles since restored... Dual stage repaint in Dark Red, very nice condition with brand new Black bucket seat interior... Nicely restored condition...

This car was sold new in California in 1971 and remained there for most of it's life until taken to Iowa around 2000. The undercarriage of this car confirms it is not rusty. An Iowa owner found it parked behind a garage in 2002, in original condition and not running. They purchased the car and had it shipped to Florida when they relocated here in 2002. After arrival, a cosmetic and mechanical restoration was completed. Only about 3K miles have been driven since completion.

When the owners bought the car in Iowa, they were issued a rebuilt title. They do not know why and since the car was in original condition, saw no evidence of any accident damage or rebuild We have gone over the car and also to no see any evidence of rebuild. All we can figure out it at some time it might have been involved in a minor accident and due to the low value, might have been settled with an insurance company. Once that happens, title must be marked rebuilt. We see no evidence of any undercarriage crash damage or patching. It is all original. We have priced the car accordingly.

Not understanding the rebuilt title, they proceeded with the restoration upon moving to Florida in 2002. A very nice car ready for a new owner...

In 1971, a new Beetle model featuring MacPherson strut front suspension and a redesigned front end was launched alongside the "standard" Beetle, which continued in production. Officially known (and marketed in Europe) as the VW 1302 from 1971 to 1972, and VW 1303 from 1973 onwards, but commonly called Super Beetle, the new stretched nose design replaced the dual parallel torsion bar beams which had compromised trunk space and relocated the spare tire from a near vertical to a low horizontal position. The redesign resulted in a tighter turning radius despite a 20 mm (0.79 in) longer wheelbase, and a doubling of the front compartment's cargo volume.
